Love the way it smacks you in the face with raw drum/guitar fury after "Come Around".

Totally agreed. One thing that comes across on the Everything Falls Apart remaster that appears on the Savage Young Du boxset is how much complex the rhythm section parts are compared to your average hc band back then. Even on the fast tunes there's this sense of swing and shifting rhythms, more in common with the Minutemen if anything, just drenched over with the squeal of Mould's guitar and yelps. I don't think they ever really got their due as one of the truly great HC acts of the period.jakethesnake wrote: Thu Jul 13, 2023 5:42 pm
That said, I actually find the "pure" hardcore (which never really existed; Land speed record was just the first set in their show, second set was more varied and "Everything falls apart" have a good half of it's playtime devoted to stuff that's *clearly* not hc (tm)) aspect of their sound underrated nowadays due to the majority of their fans nowadays being "alt-rock" fans who have an allergic reaction to "generic" hardcore which I honestly don't think the huskers ever were. Even on "Landspeed...", the drumming at least is far removed from the stiff/lame polka beats I associate with acts like Minor Threat. Also, tracks like "I never forget you" and "Pride" are just as good as their best melodic songs IMO
