Had to go with Arise, Therefore. The Grubbs presence on that one gives it a little somethin’-somethin’. Seeing them on that tour was also better than seeing them on the Viva Last Blues tour with Pajo on the bongos.

Hard toss up between Viva Last Blues and Days in the Wake.

Don't listen like I used to, but when a song pops into my head, it tends to be Pushkin or Cinematographer, so yeah, Days in the Wake

Days... has an intimate atmosphere that makes it very special, I think a great part of its power comes from the songs being super compact and being so short - it's the Reign in Blood / Group Sex of sadcore.

I used to really rate Arise... but that one hasn't aged very well with me.

Will Oldham is a fascinating wordsmith to be sure. Here's another one: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/ ... 222777e969

There is no one.. because it sounds like a Slint country record at times. There are good songs on later records but he never really sounded like that again.
