The only thing Faith No More has ever inspired me to do besides change the radio or hit skip on a playlist is create this thread.

Dated as fuck, but 16 yr old me listened to it a lot upon release. There are a couple of bangers on there I still enjoy, but a lot of garbage.

Helmet-House of Pain, Teenage Fanclub-De La Soul, Slayer-Ice T, Sonic Youth-Cypress Hill…still love those tracks, but yeah, the rest is pretty bad. I am still going to vote NC.

Here we go…

Dope when I was 15. Haven't feel the need to listen to in decades though.

NC for the memories I guess.

A mixed bag. Not crap because experimentation like this within “mainstream alternative” was a good thing.

As said, Helmet-House of Pain, Teenage Fanclub-De La Soul, Slayer-Ice T, Sonic Youth-Cypress Hill were all great, especially SY/CH.

I have this on vinyl, but couldn’t tell you who else is on there without searching it.

Yuck. Even the artists I like that contributed to this (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur, Teenage Fanclub, Mudhoney, early Helmet, De La Soul, Ice-T, and Run DMC) were already burnt or getting there by the time this thing was recorded. Maybe Del Tha Funky Homosapien still had some life left in him in 1993? I dunno.

Biohazard, Onyx, Pearl Jam, Cypress Hill, Living Color, and House of Pain always struck me as being glossy crud from day one. Biz bands.

"Just Another Victim" and "Judgment Night" were totally from that tough guy/hockey jock school of alternarock. The latter song being especially horrible, per my recollection ("juuuuuddgemeeennnnnt niiiiiiight!"; fuck you).

Someone like Jeru or Wu Tang jamming w/the Boredoms or the Blues Explosion might have been vaguely cool at the time, but that's pretty far-fetched for a Hollywood soundtrack, no?

This album always struck me as something cooked up by an overzealous A&R guy or bigshot producer. A gent like Hal Willner was always way more organic and elegant at such endeavors.

I think I saw the movie (likely crap) but the soundtrack sucked. It was definitely the genesis of Nu-Metal.

Del put out his IMO best album No need for alarm that year and while I'm personally not much of a fan of stuff like Deltron 3030 or-yuck!-Gorillaz, he was definitely not a hasbeen. I agree with the other ones though in the case of De La Soul, I think they too peaked that year with Buhloone Mindstate and their next album Stakes is high seems to be the most acclaimed nowadays... they were defintely *perceived* a bit like has-beens in 93 though...
