Soon after The Problem With Me came out Seam did a tour with Hum. I was camping in the Great Smoky Mountains with some friends and we cut our camping short to drive to Knoxville to see them play in a crappy little bar.

I have seen them many many times and they have always been good no matter the lineup. Looking forward t to seeing them at the T+G show.

You'd Prefer Some Astroglide and The Problem w/ Bitches were godly albums for their time.

Of course my music elitists friends point out that those are 2 of the most boring bands evAR. Sorry elitists, not every album can be a self indulgent Bad Religion rant. ;)

I've never met a chick who didn't eventually love The Problem W/ Me.

ergo its chick music, and I like chick rock

dayum.

I only wish they'd put out another record. Does anyone know what Soo Yung Park is up to these days, besides programming?

There was also an old article where he mentioned his guitar tuning (I think he detuned the G string or something, I can't remember), does anyone have a link to that?

My kid latched onto "The Pace is Glacial" after buying it on a lark out of a used bin and was pissed that I already owned it as he thought he had something new and cool to turn me on to. I felt kinda bad/old.

Let the fucking [Nineties] die.

You'd let an 8-year old die, neophile?

At the risk of sounding overly earnest..My point was that, having lived through the 1990s, in the Midwest, witnessing the heyday of underground bands ripping off Touch & Go and Dischord relentlessly, and having been a regular concert-goer during the emergence of emo, mathrock, and "angular" hardcore, I have very little desire to revist that era of music, even when it comes to unpresumptuous bands like Seam who were, very arguably, the real deal. Yes, I like a good amount of rock music from that time, but, for better or worse, Seam don't make the cut for me, and there are much more interesting eras and genres of music to explore as far as I'm concerned.

Next time you call someone a neophile, do your research first.

did they record 2 versions of this?
i've got it on the kernel LP.
but it seems different to the one on 'the problem with me', the latter being my preference. i lost my copy of 'the problem with me though :(

so did i imagine this? or are they actually different versions?
Same song, different recordings.

bobbydj wrote:Yeah - not crap. I loved Bitch Magnet so bloody much that Soo Young Park would get my vote whatever he did ... Seam was sort of a let down after - but once I got into the change of gear I ended up liking 'em.

Hmm, Headsparks was sort of a let down. I bought it very soon after I'd heard of BM connection. I tried to like it but no, it didn't work for me. Headsparks is the only full length Seam record that I don't like.

I'd say the strongest songs are on Problem with me and I love it.

Milk & Melancholy as a song title would better suit Seam than Rodan.

For three decent LPs Seam got NC.

For my money the best version of this band was the one with Bob Rising (fantastic drummer) on the drums.

Great music. Headsparks and Problem with Me are also excellent. I turn 40 in a few months........I don't ever want to grow up.
