Re-capping

capacitors become leaky... meaning they don't block DC as well... also the capacitance di-electric breaks down over time... capacitors are generally better today than twenty years ago... start with electrolytics... generally like for like... power supply filtering then signal blocking case-by-case r...

M-S with no matrix

M/S is no pain in the ass with Samplitude. Just record your M and S to separate tracks, Flip the phase on the left side of the S track, even though it's a mono track, you're done... now mix to taste. the deal is, if during mix down, you can't easily create a hard panned S and inverted S from the sin...

M-S with no matrix

it totally depends on your setup or need when tracking...

if once the M and S are tracked and you have the cability to also invert the SIDE, then you won't need the Matrix Box.

M-S with no matrix

yeah, it's exactly the same as swapping the wires in the cable. swapping the mic cable + and - wires is inverting the signal polarity... which is the same as flipping the phase once tracked.

m-s stereo mic technique

I've used MS often (close micing) and I've fought the skewed image some. I had attributed it to the fact that the M and one side of the S are basically in phase and they sum, whereas the inverted S and M form a difference... thus shifting the image. But now I'm thinking it's related to close micing....
