They do write books that show you how to do those things, but they wouldn't give you the equipment and facilities. When you are starting out at something it is nice to spend time with people who actually do the work.

I've read all the reviews of the sound quality of the mic on this board and others. I was mostly curious about the durability of the mic. Thanks for answering my questions.

I do live sound and am looking to add a small diaphragm condenser to my mic collection. I'm tempted to forgo getting the Shure SM 81 and try out the 37r. Anyone ever used one for live sound? HiHat, hippie percussion. acoustic guitar? How durable are they?

What do you call the tape you use to splice two pieces of tape together with? Is there a prefered brand?

My next mic purchase is going to be a pair of SDC for stereo recording. I've been leaning towards the AKG 451 but have not seen many pairs being sold, mostly individual mic's. I read somewhere on Shure's website that all SM81's should be close enough in sound that you can use any 2 as a matched pair...

Gravity bongs are nice for the occasional smoker. It is efficient and you most likely have everything you need to make it in your home. It's hard to justify spending cash on a glass pipe or bong if you smoke a few times a year.
