I checked, it's The Monks. The Sonics played garage rock, The Monks played The Monks music, it's of its time, but still unique, and totally great.

I hadn't realised The Sonics had formed so early, assumed otherwise. The Monks have something different about them that sets them further apart, though. The Sonics are clearly doing a raw version of an existent form, The Monks already have in them what would distinguish the music from the following ...

I read that they recorded BMT on november 1965. Is there anything contemporary or earlier with that same kind of caveman rawness and energy?
