Eventide profanity delays have a Precision Fixed Delay mode with 100uS steps. Electrical's unit is probably a stripped-down BD500.

I had the cheaper Fostex that would only record on 4 tracks at a time. It looks like the R8 has something similar. It could be some kind of switching issue.

I just tried some Oktava 219's (modded, high frequency resonators removed). HOLY FUCK. Huge low end and nice balanced tone. Easy to position due to the flat shape, and you can put them as close as you like. The off-axis cymbal bleed wasn't too colored, although SDC's are better in this respect.

Using one right now. At KDVS (Davis, CA) we have bands play live on the air and use the hallway as a reverb chamber. We have a rolling unit consisting of 2 speakers and an amp tied to an office chair. It sounds really, really good.

High SPL, no ... a typical condenser capsule can take a much higher SPL than the electronics.

Air movement from a kick, yes. I put a big ol' windscreen on a condenser if I use it inside or outside a kick.

If the piano is stereo miced, summing L and R to mono can sound pretty fucked, unless it's a coincident pair.
