i tried this with both a d112 and a u47fet. i recorded one take with the mics up close to the front head and then about five feet away with a tunnel. the only marked difference was the close tracks had more low end punch. when mixed in with the other drum mics the tunnel tracks sounded pretty dull ...

i don't mean to hijack this thread but i've been thinking about getting a new snare mic myself. the m201 is looking pretty promising. is there something else in that price range that i should consider as well?

usually fender silverface bassman heads are pretty cheap. i bought my bassman 70 for $200. they're really cheap to get fixed so look for one that needs some tlc. people will let them go for next to nothing. then take it to a good repair guy and you'll be set. i haven't had any problems with mine but ...

why (in the resell market) do pl20s sell for much less than re20s if they are basically the same mic? and why do sennheiser 441s sell for almost the same as 421s when brand new theyre about $500-$400 more? not complaining, i'm just curious.
