Dude, I was there I know what the fuck happened...your grateful Dead acoustic hero is a fucking cockwash, deal with it.
I think his solo stuff sucks.
I just think you're holding a ridiculous grudge against a band based on someone you claim to be in said without offering any proof that they are/were in said band.

What don't you understand about what I'm saying to you?
I was there, I know what happened, I know exactly who was involved.
I don't know what kind of fucking proof you want, I did not get a blood sample before he left.

Ridiculous grudge? I'd say it's a pretty fucking valid reason to hold a grudge, for a long long time. Like forever. I really counted on that 20 bucks I was making every Friday back then, and I really liked getting stoned and playing records for people.

If I ever get famous and we are at the same big awards event, I will punch him in the mouth and it'll be on the news...I'll tell the whole story on the tonight show the following week and everyone will be on my side, his career will be in ruins.

Did you not hear the story? What part of the story tells you he does not deserve to get punched in the mouth? The part where he was being an asshole crybaby or the part where he used his influence to ruin things for someone who didn't deserve it?

Who the fuck do you think? Aren't you paying any attention at all?

He got you fired which was pretty incredibly shitty if the story is 100% accurate as told from your side, but even as told from your side there's no reason to be a dick to someone who compliments your cuts during a DJ set. What's the benefit? It's certainly not the most annoying thing in the entire world, which I believe is a paraphrasing of your own statement. It was also twenty bucks a week and in the past.

Besides, if I got that riled up and stayed that riled up about people doing shitty things to me I'd have torched my high school and probably a good chunk of the neighbourhood I live in by now.

that's fine, but I am looking at music I like to see live as a performance, not a football game or a fraternity party. If I go see Steve Reich and I make a loud ass of myself during his performance, hooting and hollerin', I I deserve to be kicked out.
Marsupialized wrote:People like to unwind and have a good time, not everyone on the planet is a fucking stiff, uptight nerd. Most normal people don't go to a live music show to stand dead silent like it was a funeral or a movie. Why would anyone want to do that? Even the quiet stuff can be done without creating that shitty feeling like if I get up to go to piss everyone will give me dirty looks.

I agree but I am not talking about not moving or enjoying yourself, I am talking about being a belligerent loud mouth socialite at quiet shows. I personally think the performer should tell these assholes to shut the fuck up so the rest of the audience that is there can hear the music over the din of loudmouths who can't show enough respect to SHUT THE FUCK UP. If you are there to dance, watch, boogie, sit, stand, "feel the mantra" or whatever, then do it. But if you act like it's a sports bar then you should get shit for it. Take the social act to the frat house or the elk's lodge. That's my point.

Marsupialized wrote:I've been to plenty of quiet shows where the person on the stage, being a true artist and/or somewhat cool was able to either get the people to be quiet without coming off like an ass or work the loud people into the whole show and everyone had a good time.

That's great when it happens like that. Unfortunately that takes a majority audience that don't act like childish, frat-boy, extroverted loudmouths, which is rare when quiet bands do play. Most people are too hopped up on hearing themselves talk or whatever to pay attention and enjoy the band in a way that doesn't infringe upon other's ability to enjoy the same quiet band in a small, intimate space.

If you go to a public place you have to deal with the public.
I'd suggest setting up more shows in your living room.

Good point, I'll work on that.

You guys are arguing about 'should' vs 'have to'.

Should people be quiet during live music that is quiet out of consideration of the efforts of the artist and the people around them who want to hear the quiet music? Yes. Do they have to? No.

Should Jeff Tweedy demand utter silence from his audience? No.

I think everyone involved in a situation like that is a dick...the crowd for being inconsiderate of the musician and the other audience members, and Tweedy for not taking it like a fucking man and learning to deal with not being in complete control at that moment.

Crowd: shut the fuck up
Tweedy: get the fuck over it

That said, Wilco remains NOT CRAP.

And it seems to me that Marsupialized has as good a reason to dislike Mr. Wilco as most people have to dislike anyone.
