Remembering Michael, Doug, and John (was: not again)

Michael was a good friend to me and countless others. Needless to say, he will be missed. I am thankful that he was in my life. I started becoming friends with him a couple of years ago. We would see movies together once in a while, hang out, have drinks. He lived fairly close. When I heard the news this morning, I felt punched. I'm still trying to get my head around this and it is very difficult. My thoughts are with all his other friends and family right now. It all seems so senseless that a person so full of life is no more. The difficult reality to face is that it will never make sense. I will miss him dearly. He did great things while on this earth: musically, artistically via working on his documentary film and generally by just being a great human being, always willing to listen and offer insightful thoughts. So in the moment and honest. I am thankful to have known him. The last time I saw him, we spent an entire day together while I helped him move. I am so glad I got to spend that day with him, it was lots of fun. I'll never forget the guy.

Since hearing the sad news earlier today, it is all I have thought about. It's rough. To the people who were closer to Michael it must be even more so. My heart and thoughts go out to you.

I had the pleasure, the true pleasure, of spending much of last weekend in Michael's company. We drove to and from Michigan and attended a wedding together. A lot of great conversation and pure, simple fun was had. And it is crazy that now, less than a week later, he is gone.

I'm thankful for having gotten to know him a bit in recent years. Easily one of the most kind, open, smart, warm, funny, engaging, thoughtful, welcoming people I have ever met.

Salut!

Three magnificent souls are now past us.

We sat there Thursday afternoon, wondering why they had not returned from lunch.

This morning we learned.

Of the human beings that I have had the pleasure of calling friends & cohorts, John, Michael and Doug were of the finest vintage.

As far as days go, this one has been entirely wrong.

Blessings to all who will now have to put one foot in front of the other.

Peace.
