Interpol at First Ave. I'm not even sure why I went. I kind of like their records I guess. Whatever the case, they sucked. They played the songs almost too perfectly, only at half speed. It was like listening to the records with your finger on the turntable. I guess for 25 bucks I expected to be entertained in a rock-show kind of way. It wasn't even fun to make fun of them. I spent most of their set playing pinball.

Second was the band who opened for the Pixies in Winnipeg last year. I don't remember their name.

technically, yes, they can play, but it all seems to be a contest of who can paste together the BEST convincing image and sound just like who they're ripping off the most

speaking from all sides of the spectrum ( metal, hardcore, indie, hip hop)

you may be right.... but the same comment applies to almost all bands from everywhere, doesn't it? i saw book of lists open for stephen malkmus last night and all i could think about was what exact ratio of my bloody valentine to guided by voices it would take to create them, and how it was unfortunate that their songwriting wasn't very interesting although they had some nice sounds.

indie rock is becoming less of a DIY invention and more of a who can copy the most recognition worthy albums

My friend dragged me to Oasis at UIC last week...I went because he told me Andy Bell was playing bass for them now, and that got my interest up a bit as Ride were always cool....holy fucking Jesus did it suck huge balls. They used to fill giant stadiums and the UIC was not even half full....but they still had the lights and pyro and everything that a stadium band would have, it was just so depressing....My friend is a HUGE Oasis fan, and halfway thru he turns to me and says 'Hey, let's get out of here this is really terrible"
Total by the numbers boring bullshit, really pathetic.
Plus you can't drink or smoke at UIC, made it even more fun to sit thru this crap dead sober....

I'll only stick to famous ones....since I've seen tons of shitty bands

No Doubt....pre-record deal....10 other people there, and Gwen was in this cheerleader outfit and did something like a Yodel at the end EVERY song. She'd try to hold this note but couldn't....and was serious.

...so we would try to beat her to the Yodel....hoping she'd stop....but no. We weren't even there to her....

a year later I saw their record in the store....along with the major promo push...

Third Eye Blind have to the worst live band ever...

I was coerced into going to the Rave/Eagles Ballroom to see this mess one week into their first major label supported tour. I doubt they had been out of Cali before this trip.

That Stephen guy CANNOT sing... AT ALL!!

I heckled and flipped them off repeatedly, and we all went to the bar 4 or songs into the set and got hammered.

I hate when well-intentioned friends get suckered by a Spin or AP article and I have to endure this type of shit.

I wound up in front of them again, this time at Summerfect because somebody's goddamn girlfriend wanted to go to THAT stage...
The suckage witnessed years earlier wasn't from lack of prcatice, they still sucked.

I hate when friends date idiotic twats and I have to endure this type of shit.

Oh, someone mentioned Deerhoof...
The attraction of this music is lost on me, but the show was entertaining.
Guitar tone was righteous, and the drummer put up one of the top 2 or 3 performances I have ever seen.

I respect drummers that beat the ever-loving piss out of their kits on the road...

A friend dragged me out to see Medeski, Martin, and Wood at an Atlanta coffee shop back in the early 90s since he knew I was into "jazz." They must have played two sets, each at least two hours long, of painfully dull fusiony jazz 'groove' wankery. I've seen bands that were worse from a proficiency or chemistry standpoint, but that was by far the most miserable I've ever been at a show. I didn't have a car and had to sit through the whole thing. Just awful.

Maybe not the worst live show ever, but the most dissappointing. I recently saw Fantomas with the Locust and Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant.

First Trevor Dunn payed. They were mind blowing. I had never heard them until this point, so I really didn't know what to expect. When I heard a mix of traditional jazz with noise/metal, I was pretty impressed.

Earlier that day, my friend told me that the Locust would be the best band playing that night. He said that they were really fast, intense, and energetic and that not even Fantomas would live up to it. Well, he was wrong.

The Locust came out wearing these stupid gray body suits with full-head covers. They began to play, and I proceeded to watch four guys stand in place for half an hour. Not only were they musically unimpressive, but they were BORING.

Watching the vocals was probably the funniest part. I could tell that they were trying to make intense face while they were screaming, but nobody could see their faces, because they were covered by the face masks on the body suits. Trevor Dunn was definitely better, much better.

Then Fantomas came out, and showed them up a second time. Mike Patton is awesome.

Anyways, that's my story.
