Tears In Heaven by Clapton: Best Song Ever?

7
The Mr. Show parody of that song is one of the meanest comedy bits I've ever seen. And I don't mean that derisively. An Eric Clapton stand-in played by David Cross wins Best Sad Song at the American Song Awards (or something), for a "Tears In Heaven"-like song he's written about his dead son. While accepting the award, he's so jubilant that when he triumphantly hoists it over his head it flies into the audience and kills the son of another contestant. The "Clapton" character then writes a song about this guy's dead son, and at next year's awards show, the sad song award is a tie between "Clapton" and the guy who's son "Clapton" killed. The other guy angrily stabs "Clapton" to death on the podium, and the announcers discover that "Clapton" has already written a tribute song to himself to be played in the event of hid death.

Comedy gold, I tell ya.

without going into much detail, i'll say that Eric Clapton ranks VERY high on my list of people who get way more credit than i believe they merit. him and Lou Reed are practically giving each other handjobs.

that being said, there's no way this song could be one of the best ever, cause it's his.

yes, it's about something terrible and tragic.

no, it's not a song i want to listen to. no, it's not one of the best ever. not even remotely close.

good job though, you're trollin with the best of 'em dere guy!!!
