My vote is the for the third option. Nothing but goatee scratchin' friendliness throughout my dealings with them and the early output can't be beat--until they went crazy and released hefty bags of dull and characterless crap (yet still managed to squeek out brilliant non-crap).

i'm with horsewhip, this was probably my "favorite" label growing up, just meaning the majority of the bands i listened to were on it.

it's funny, i was just thinking about AMREP last night, wondering if anyone else missed such power acts like hammerhead and janitor joe (old). i think i listened to etherial killer and big metal birds every day for a year straight.

and does anyone remember lowercase? the first album, all destructive urges... fucking perfect.

Pretty much reverse these for me, with the exception of Calvin Krime - full CRAP including first record. For me, lowercase was a boring boring band, as were Servotron and Supernova. Lubricated Goat have made several fine records, and Surgery (RIP) were one of my favorite bands to see live, even if their major label jump was unfortunately sugarslick.

God Bullies was some bullshit.

Hammerhead, I didn't like at first, but grew to really like over time.

Helios Creed? Notoriously really on or terribly off, but I think Boxing The Clown was out on Amrep and that is one freaking great jump-off point if you've never heard his stuff (or it hasn't ever excited).

Thrown Ups - agree with horsewhip, so bad it's good. Especially on a good car stereo when you're stuck in traffic. Or to keep space open around you at the beach.
