I was wanting to buy new speakers for my Twin. I wanted to know if anybody could recomend a particular type that would be good. The speakers in it right now don't have any type of name or identifying marks or numbers, so I don't know what they are, but I am sure that they are not factory issue. The amp is from between '72 and '75 (I think).
thanks for any help that you guys can give.

2We replaced the speakers in our Twin with Alnico Jensens, and They sound great. Bright but not piercing with a nice low end, not too boomy.
I have also heard people rave about Kendrick and Top Hat speakers in Fender amps.

3hey...along those lines, i have 2 questions:
i have an early 90s ampeg reverberocket 212...and my house was recently flooded. the electronics weren't affected, but the speakers were submerged about halfway. i let them dry out for about a week, turned it on, and everything seems functional. my question is how much are my speakers likely to be affected, and if i was to replace them, what do you guys recommend? insurance may pay for this suggestions in a number of price ranges would be helpful.
thanks!

i have two mid 60's reverberockets, and both of them have Jensen speakers. the one i have here in my apartment has a C12R in it, i'm not sure what's in the other one cause it's at my space. so if you were gonna replace the speakers in your amp, i would think about those. although i'm not sure the wattage of the newer reverberockets, so those speakers might be underrated for your wattage.
here's a nice resource as far as Jensen speakers go, translating models from vintage to current, matching speakers to amps, whatever.

5Hi Glueman,
I have recorded several great-sounding (I think) guitar-based albums at EA using mostly speakers from weber vst. I highly recommend their wide product range over the competition - call them and they will set you up with whatever sound-profile you may want in a speaker. Your twin probably came with oxfords or something like that - weber C or P12N would be good replacements. www.webervst.com

6Thank You so much for the the suggestion Steve. I have seen Jensens mentioned frequently. On Ebay they are selling C12Ns but having now looked at the Alnico Jensens it seems like they are better. Were you refering to P12Ns? I think that I might get those then. Are ceramic speakers considered worse? Money will not be an issue so I want to get the best that I can and after having owned many Twins and years of playing I know shockingly little about the amps or speakers (which has cost me plenty when dealing with shady repair people in the past) so I am making an effort to learn more.
Thanks Dogrange for that site. It is really impressive. How are that company's amp kits? My brother really wants to learn how to build amps and it is something we have been discussing recently so I will pass that on to him. DO they offer any kits that would compare to Twins? Basically I like something that can get as loud as possible while still remaining very clean, because I use distortion pedals and right now my Twin just sounds so muddy and unclear (partly do to my guitar, although I am getting new pickups soon).
Thanks for any info you guys can give me.
And the reduction in rates is amazing!!! Hopefully one day I can record here. We'll see when I get more student loans in January. Ha!

This is a common misconception about many things which contain magnets.
People think that ceramics are worse because they cost less to make. This applies to pickups too. They just sound different. Many people say that Alnico sounds "sweeter" whatever that means - I think it just means softer treble response.
Alnico became less popular for a while because aluminium-nickel-cobalt became expensive, so people opted for ceramic magnets. Also, ceramics tend to weigh less.
The Jensens are very good in my opinion. I had an eight inch model in my Electar tube amp. It was much more sensitive than the original.

8I second the Weber vote.
They basically make a better Jensen. I would go with the 12F150.
I also like the new Blue Tick Hound from Eminence. Well made in the USA and inexpensive.
Anybody the carries EH or Sovtek products can order Weber or Eminence from us.
Good luck.
