i second this remark. that pedal rules.
Are we talking about the bass Sansamp? If so, yeah, it is pretty nice. I've not used it for bass, but I've had to do a few battery-powered gigs this summer, and rented one as a preamp. Checking it out in the store, I thought the guitar Sansamp's simulated amp tones weren't very good at all--tone suckers, really. The bass Sansamp, however, seemed to have a lot more headroom, no stupid simulation circuits, and just generally did a better job of amplifying the signal I wanted to amplify.
For bass, years ago I bought an ART two-channel compressor. Being younger and stupider, I just bought the thing mail order without bothering to hear one first. In my experience, it was pretty bad on the stereo bus (the reason I'd bought it), but it turned out to sound rather glorious on bass, which is why I keep it around.

15I run mine through exactly 23 bass PODs and then feed it through a laptop running Amplitube (run 5 times in series) before finally polishing it using T-racks mastering compressor.
I think I might re-write some of the algorithms in Amplitube though, just to get a bit more "punch".

16Hmmmmm, Amplitube? never heard of it. I'll have to look into it. Someone also said something about a virtual rig or something. Definatly interesting. Usually I don't even use any distortion, just the overdrive of the front end of my amp. But sometimes it's a good bit of fun to just line them all up and let em' rip.

17We played with a band...what the fuck were they called...the lavelles? lavellas? some shit like that, anyway each guy in the band had a massive amount of pedals...no shit, the singer/bassist dude had at least 40 pedals they went in a huge circle all around him....took them for fucking ever to set em all up, I was excited to hear the insane sound that must make, then he played and it just sounded like a regular ol' bass to me...very disappointing...
I play my bass thru a shitty old DJ mixer I found on the street, someone painted the words 'WEED MASTER' on the side....it distorts the fuck out of it and I can step on the sampler button to do loops and shit...that into a boss octave into a Ibanez chorus into a danelectro echo into a wah....it sounds like this...bzzzrrrrrppppttttttppppttt!!!

18No pedals. Jazz bass ----> Monster Cable ----> Mesa Bass400+(overdriving the preamp slightly and 6 power tubes a pumpin') ----> heavy gauge speaker wire ----> Gallien Krueger 4x10 or home made EV design 1x15 cab (depends on my mood and the type of music). Sweet!
