I recently purchased a matched pair of Elation KM201 microphones with omni and cardioid capsules. The omni pair seems to be working fine, but one of the two cardioid caplsues doesn't sound right. These are suppose to be a matched pair, and the difference is quite dramatic between the two. It sounds as though the capsulse is blown cause there is no low end, and the top end sounds sizzly, but not in a good way.
Does anyone know where a replacement might be had, or if there is some way or repairing the damage capsule. Is there someone who specializes in repairing microphone capsules? I assume someone here must've had a similar experience at one point.
Thanks
Jay

2I seem to remember that The Sound Room used to sell Elation mics. They might still have some, or at least they could point you in the right direction.

3I think generally speaking, people don't re-skin faulty small diaphragm capsules.
Have you checked the contacts carefully on the two mics?
It might be worth sending the capsule for someone to have a look. There might be a small number of components in the head which could potentially be faulty.
If Elation still exist, you may be able to get a cheap replacement - I assume Oktava capsules will not fit?

4The Sound Room no longer carries Elation microphones. Not for several years actually. I am in contact with Paul, and hopefully he can help me out in some way though.
I thought about using Oktava capsules too, but appariently they're not compatible with Elation bodies.
Does anybody know someone, or somewhere who might look at these capsules and give me some kind of verdict on them?
thanks
Jay

5Someone here will be able to help if you politely ask in "The Lab":

6Thanks Rodabod,
I meant to post there too. Great forum and people.
I don't think photos would really help. From the outside there is no difference between the working and non working capsule, and even removing the windscreen reveals no difference. At this point I don't want to open up the capsule since I don't have the proper tools with me right now.
all the best,
jay

7Here's a short MP3 of the 2 capsules. The first is the damaged capsule.
