Current:

guitars:
1) 1978 Les Paul Custom - got it for $750 at a guitar show in Nashville years ago. It's a "factory second." Who knows what was wrong with it at the time, all I know is nothing else plays or sounds as good.
2) 1987 Squier Bullet 1 - my first guitar that I bought in '89. Looks a little like a strat except the horns are closer together. It sounds much darker and smoother than a strat. I have since converted it to a baritone.
3) 1972? Guild accoustic - a gift from my aunt. It has a very full and bassy tone. It's great for solo work.

basses:
1) 2000 ABC Systems solid aluminum bass - currently a one-of-a-kind prototype. Two pieces, 3/4" thick, neck-through. At 17 pounds it's a back-breaker. Since I've gotten used to it, everything else feels like a feather.
2) 1980something Kramer aluminum-neck bass - I don't know the model; it's black with a cream-colored p-pickup. It's also got the scooped out neck joint which isn't as strong as the older version. I replaced the bridge with a badass II for a big improvement in sustain. I currently use this tuned down to B. Floppy strings aside, I like it like this. Once I figure out how to remove the original nut, I will use a set of 5-strings on it (minus the smallest string).

Previously owned:

1) Travis Bean bass #54 - older production with thick koa body. I liked this one for it's unmistakeable midrangey bean sound, but after building the ABC I only kept it for a backup. "What a waste," I thought. "It's an instrument; it needs to be played." I sold it Ben from Form of Rocket.
2) 1989? Fender Strat (American) - I liked the sound, but I could never get it set up properly. The intonation and action were always a little off.

playing:

1997 black fender squier stratocaster. the first guitar i bought when i was 10 years old. the body has a sort of matte finish now because i steel wooled the fucker for a few hours a few years ago. i also rearranged the pickup locations, so the selector switch selects interesting combinations. the reasons i still play this guitar are 1) my second guitar, and 2) laziness and other financial priorities preventing me from buying that telecaster i want.

not playing:

ibanez rg320dx or some such model number. raspberry in color, dual humbuckaz, floyd rose floating tremelo.
this guitar i still own because i have been too lazy to sell it.

if anyone wants to buy it, i'll sell it pretty cheap. i guess i should just set up an ebay auction already.

ackoustiks:
yamaha $100 guitar that they sell at costco. it sounds pretty lo-quality-cool. don't play it too often. not too interested in ackoustik guitar playing.

surf city thin body ackoustik-electric - ebay guitar that's got a very trebbley and sharp sound. similar to a stratacoustic, but sounds about 100x less retarded.

I use a cheap Squier Affinity P-bass so I can beat the shit out of it and not care. My amp is a Trace Elliot (I've forgotten the model) that our keyboard player borrowed from a friend about four years ago. It's pleasant enough.

Maybe it seems strange to say this in the EA Tech Room, but I'm not really a gearhead; I have a great appreciation for the finer instruments and such, but I neither own nor feel the need to own them.

a Darrin Huff cuzstom 4 sting 32 inch scale length 29 frets... PURE BASS WANKING machine. A 1978 Kramer dmz aluminum neck.. modified electronics.. and a Christopher 300 series upright bass.

-early 90s gibson nighthawk...still one of the most versatile guitars tone-wise i've ever heard.

- 1999 godin LG...real nice sounding P-90s...best sounding guitar i've heard for under a grand.

both through line6 modellers and an ampeg reverberocket...dig it.
