Fear of the unknown (or the Ultra shitty parental known.)
Perhaps my parents inabilty to suss out their 7 combined marriages is what puts me off. Also , the lack of a prospective candidate.
I'm going to be 30 in November. No kids, no marriage, No crippling debt
( just lame a bit in the ankle 1nc a week!) I am happy and yet saddened at the same time in my relations to marriage.
Not Crap! this union of the law for the tax porpoises and what not.
Just not for me.......Right at this time.

33I was married for 11 years and my divorce just became final last week (seperated for over a year). Although the marriage ended (for many reasons but the most dominant was her drinking) we are still friends and there were many more good years than bad. We married in our mid twenties and had a lot of fun over the years. Although many of my ideas, notions and hopes of marriage have changed I do not regret our "taking the plunge". Shit, I may even do it again someday if I meet the right woman but for now I am content to remain sigle for a while longer. So, my vote is Not Crap.

Hey, we were getting to know each other.
I'm sure it will be boss.
So, NOT CRAP!

36i've been meaning to get married for the last 9 & a half yrs. the most beautiful wonderful girl in the world & i have been engaged since late april, 1996. we were going to get married on our ten year anniversary (next april, for anyone who wishes to send flowers). then she decided that med school was calling and we better not get married lest our joint finances fuck up her financial aid possibilities. that's ok. i'm a pragmatic dude. and i've seen her naked.
i think we may get married on our 20 yr anniversary. she's the bee's knees. NOT CRAP.

38CRAP.
I've been married for around 6 months, but my wife and I have been living together for over 7 years. We got married because my wife was pregnant with our second child and life is rather easier for families if the parents are married.
Plus my wife secretly wanted to get married.
I had 6 year relationship before my wife and I met, and if I was into the marriage thing then I'd already be divorced which seems utterly bizarre to me.
The actual marriage was lovely; cliff-top in north Cornwall on a dazzlingly hot and sunny day, with our daughter and her two cousins dashing around happily, but married life is identical to pre-married life for me, and I slightly begrudge the fact that certain things (tax etc) are easier to deal with now that I'm married.
CRAP.
9 because I love my wife and kids.

39I'm getting married in November after dating like 18 months. I can't really vote yet, but I'll go ahead and assume it won't be crap.

40Married a little over 11 months. I love it. If done for the right reasons (love, the desire to express your commitment publicly) it's definitely NOT crap. Even the religious overtones are not necessarily crap.
However, shotgun weddings = crap. Marriage because you've been dating for a long time and you have to "shit or get off the pot" = CRAP.
It shouldn't be mandatory, but if it's voluntary, than it is the very definition of not crap.
