I really like the idea, but I don't listen to music on my computer very often.

I'll vote Not Crap, but keep in mind that I've never used it...

I use this Audioscrobbler (or whatever it should be called now that it is actually last.fm) and this post reminded me that I still had to install the plugin on this, my new work computer. So thanks for that. Unfortunately the submission plugin, as of the last I remember using it anyway, was met with "connection refused" more times than not, so perhaps it is a not crap idea with crap hardware supporting it.

I do especially like the ability to listen to streaming versions of the songs in my most-played list though, as well as sampling what people with similar tastes to mine are into that I am not (yet). This is not a crap idea, but if it is supported by the same crap hardware as the submissions, perhaps it is a crap reality. I don't know.

I guess I vote not crap, with a WF of about 3.5.

crap with high waffles.

Being able to know exactly what you were listening to when = NOT CRAP in the slightest.

Listening to music on a computer (though I do it all day, and even at 320kbs) = CRAP

Plug-ins that report information from your computer to a webserver = CRAP

When said plug-ins don't work as designed = CRAP

I am liking this concept of high waffles. I think I am going to go eat some after work.

I've used it for a couple months. Most of the time I never even pay attention to it but every now and then I go back to it and look at what I've been listening to for the past couple weeks and how that has affected me in relation to my mood. It's always worked fine for me but I could see how it could easily not work and piss me off. I say NOT CRAP. Sorry if it didn't work out for other as well as it did for me.

Good point, but this information is not exactly sensitive though. or is it?

Unless you count your musical tastes as sensitive material, it is not. If you do, I wonder why you would use this plugin at all.

I guess such information would be useful to marketing directors of large record companies for assessing the listening trends of teeny boppers and the like - but where would folks like us fit in?

Would we be annoying blip on their radar that can't be quantified, or do we represent a vital, as yet untapped source of revenue...?

We are always the latter.

edit: my audioscrobbler username should be fairly easy to guess.
