Yeah, I've seen several of my friends trapped into just horrible situations with terrible women because they got attatched to the kid. I wanna say it wouldn't matter but it would, I would run.

The girl that I dated had two boys (9 and 11). I went to dinner with them once. They were actually pretty cool.

When I broke it off with her, almost immediately I thought, "Gee, I wonder what her kids are thinking?" Because apparently her sons thought I was "really cool" as well.

I see nothing wrong with dating someone who has a child as long as it's made known that they have children before anything serious happens.
