Band: The Wrens

I think they are quite under-rated. Well I suppose they only have 2 albums out, but the recent one is quite a masterpiece. I remember getting their first album a couple of years ago for about $3 at a record store, and was quite impressed with it, it varied in style from most song to song which I think more people need to do. I never understood why NOBODY knew who they were or talked about them. I mean, they might not be legends but they make music that should get as much attention as alot of other bands who I wont mention......
but that's what the whole industry is about, people who are musically talented might be playing in their bedrooms for the rest of their lives and no one will ever hear them......

There was a point in time where the Wrens were my favorite band on the planet, and I still pull out the second one, "Secaucus", every once in a while and enjoy it thoroughly. The first record, "Sliver", though, she is not so good. Maybe she is more less memorable than less good.

I do kinda like the "Abbott 1135" EP still. I still have yet to hear "The Meadowlands" -- I'm waiting until I see them live again, for personal reasons.

Absolutely one the best live shows I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it's sort of ruined their albums for me. But still...

Yeah, for good reason. It's sort of goddamn fucking amazing.

If you can find them, get yourself a copy of their previous full-lengths, Silver and Secaucus. The latter is the album i discovered them during, and it kicked my ass 11 years ago. I sort of compared it to the Beach Boys meets Brainiac. After that, Meadowlands felt like a huge evolutionary leap for them, but seeing songs from both albums performed live they totally fit together.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite bands ever, and their story is really inspiring. NOT CRAP!

Agreed.

When I first heard the Meadowlands, I listened to it pretty much non-stop for about a month and a half. It is a fucking glorious record.

A testament to a band's ability is making great records, and evolving with each one. The God-like leap they took after the Meadowlands (with good reason, wasn't it like, eleven years record to record?) is one of the most respectable steps forward in the recent history of independent rock.

This is one band that Pitchfork (almost) got right.
