U2

From the very start I knew I couldn't have all those early singles. I tried to find people willing to tape me hard to fined records from their own collections. I managed to buy "New Year's Day" maxi-single in Trieste. Eventually some nice guy who worked at the local radio station taped me "a Celebration" EP and few rare singles/EPs.

Then I changed U2 for...

R.E.M.

When I finally got all I.R.S. albums in a good college rock tradition I became fascinated to the point of obsession with...

Hüsker Dü

I managed to find "Could you be the one?" EP and shitty pirate version of "Everything falls apart" on vinyl. Regular SST and WB records were not more than enough at the time. Funny.

Where are those records now?
I wonder.

I am glad I got rid of that "passion" after HD episode. I don't mind U2, REM or Hüsker Dü - they are more or less fine chaps who had their moments - but this crippled frame of mind, desire to have everything by certain rock band. That's really childish and stupid. However, if it makes you happy or you can only feel complete owning everything I don't mind. That's really a minor aberration. I rarely vote crap but this kind of behavior is pretty potent crap.

Steve prefaced one of those Futurist songs by telling a story about taking a guy's fancy digital recording equipment away from him before the show, and that they were gonna play an unreleased song to taunt him. The guy was in the crowd early on, and told a photographer I know (along with all around him) that "none of them better talk" while Shellac were playing, because he was going to be recording their set. So Chuck (the photographer) caught Steve walking through the crowd, told him what the guy had said, so Steve just basically walked up to the guy, grabed some cables, turned around and walked away with the guy's shit.

I remember this happening, man those shows were so much fun. On my birthday to boot! Noone does cool shit anymore.

Pariah is great!...
Anyhoo, The "blue" version of Betty is the CD of Betty in a Blue clear case with all the live tracks from Wilma's Rainbow EP on it.

Whoops—I meant that the mp3 quality is CRAP, not the songs themselves...

Huh. I'd never heard of the blue version of betty. Ima look for it; thanks for the heads up.
