i have a kramer aluminum neck 8 string and its one of the most impressive and dominating sounding guitars i have ever heard or played. it sounds huge and people are always blown away by the variety of tones and sounds it gets. i have played other 8 string basses and was not impressed. it can cut through any mix and just chimes like a piano. this is one unsung and incredable axe!!!!!

I ended up getting a Kramer DMZ 2000 for about 250 euros ($200).
I love it. I had seen the Vacarro guitars and must say, I don't like the look of them very much. I have not played them so I can't comment on the feel or the sound but the look is enough to turn me off.

When I was last in Europe (a few weeks ago) the exchange rate was different... 250 Euros is more like 300 dollars American. I think you might be wrong, unless the rate changed recently.

I've used both.

I picked up a TB500 in New Zealand for US$150 and haven't looked back. The through neck is the key. As one of the earlier guys said, clean at low amp volume they are unique. The Kramers aren't really a very good quality guitar -some Travis' are a bit rough as well, you should see the inside on mine!-.

The one problem with Travis is the sound can break-up badly at high gain. The TB500 pickups are a dilemia because the neck sounds fantastic clean, bassy and microphonic, but the bridge at high gain has a low output and is too glassy.

I've solved to problem but replacing the bridge pickup with a much higher output single-coil sized humbucker pickup and kept the bridge stock. Now I can switch between the bassy neck-neck/bridge position and use the bridge. Once the TB pickup covers are on you'll never see the difference.
