Ukrainian-American Gypsie folk punk?
They recorded they're newest record, Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike, with Steve at EA.
The singer is also in that movie Everything is Illuminated.

2I rather dislike this band, but I fear it may be because of their fans more than the band itself, which is maybe unfair to them. That said, I cant help it, much like many folks have trouble seeing past the Phish fans to Phish.
Gogol Bordello are very accomplished musicians playing very, very schticky music. It is sorta fun for about ten minutes. Twenty if you like to drink. Thirty if you like to get really drunk. And perhaps a full hour if you know what emptying a bottle by yourself feels like from personal experience.
And a show by them has the same claustrophobic atmosphere of drunken groupthink as a frat party.

That's about as far as I made it into the new CD...it did nothing for me.
I've heard that they are really good live though, so until
I experience that, I can't really make a final decision. But crap, for now.

5i've only seen their gypsy-hiphop spinoff group Balkan Beat Box. But they were damn good live.

8God reading this thread makes me sad.
I went to a Cougars show at subt and these guys headlined. They blew my mind. I go to shows hoping to just nod my head approvingly, these guys play and you can't help jumping up and down. Their live show is phenomenal. In smaller venues, they do this thing where, during the finale, one of the chicks stands on top of the bass drum passed around the crowd while playing it . No one misses a beat, it's just part of the song. It's amazing to see.
My dilemma is that they're playing at the Metro dec 15, the same date my amazing book release party featuring a Big'n reunioun might be happening at the bottle. I'm really hoping we get another date.
Seriously, they're that great live, don't miss it.....unless of course Big'n is playing at the bottle.

10They sound like Mano Negra pulled up with horse drawn wagons and lucky
heather.
I have been secretly enjoying the Blah Whatever Contras... Cd which I
didn't like at first.
