Man, I'm getting FAT.

Any of you guys workout? What do you do?

I've always heard that it's easier to exercise with a buddy, but I've got none of those. I thought about maybe buying a bike or something.

About 3x a week I go to a gym and use one of their elliptical trainers for about 45 minutes on the "fat burn" setting (low intensity, doesn't raise my heart rate or trigger my asthma) and then immediately go use a bunch of different weight machines: particularly stuff that works on the chest or back, and either the arms or legs depending on what day it is. Sometimes I use another one that twists the torso. My doctor seems to think all of this is okay.

When I had a gym membership (before I bought my house......I can't afford it now), I'd get on a treadmill and go nuts for 30 minutes at least 2X a week.

Now I have a dog which MUST be walked--at least--once a day. I usually take her to a big park and walk her around for about 45 minutes or so. I usually take one hit off a sneak-a-toke before the walk. I also strap on some headphones which makes the walk a little more bearable.

I've found that's what I dislike most about exercising: The monotony.

I do notice that I sleep better on the days I exercise though.

Oh yeah, I got a p.o.s. weight bench off craigs list and try to use it as often as I can stand.

hey maj. the old battle of the bulge, eh?
start mentioning to the wife that it seems like she got back down to her regular weight "noticeably quicker" after her last pregnancy. Get her a Tae-Bo video and leave it gift wrapped in the fridge. offer to hold her feet and count her sit-ups a couple times per day. you should drop 10 pounds in just a few days. hotels are expensive, you won't be able to afford all the little food "extras".

seriously though, how much beer do you drink? i was quite the beer drinker, a couple beers every day with a few days a week that i drank as many as i could. when my little girl was born, i pretty much stopped drinking during the week and only had any beer or alcohol occasionally. also i didn't eat as much late nite beer munchie junk food. i lost 30 pounds in a few months without trying to. Ask Lance. it's been 3 years but still when i'm in town and people see me they freak out.
also, i bought a kayak this year. i go out on it about 3 times a week. i could never ever force myself to do real exercise, but the kayak is a super workout and i go out and fish from it. or i smoke a joint on the river and paddle around like a filthy hippie.
my shop is next door to a kayak shop. i can get you hooked up. we could both ride kayaks and talk about it here every day in our posts. then we can both find new forums that won't kick us out for talking about our kayaks.

I’ve been having trouble finding sustainable forms of exercise. I can get really into new things really quickly and do amazing stuff to myself for a couple of weeks, come out all ‘ah, behold, the new me’… guaranteed one month later I’ve dropped said form of exercise like a sack of shit and my body goes back to its normal shape. Ta’i chi has been the best thing I’ve ever found, in a million ways… trouble is, there are no good teachers in Teesside. Plenty of people teaching something that your average person would consider ta’i chi, but if you know a little about it, you know what they’re doing is crap. I should have stuck with yoga maybe but I got bored of the idea.

A fifteen to twenty mile walk in the Cleveland Hills once a month is the only thing that’s happening for me at the moment. A twenty minute walk to work twice a day. Walking’s pretty lame though, isn’t it?

Why am I posting here? I have nothing to say on the subject of exercise.

After our son was born last year, Gina lost almost all of the weight immediately (she's small). I, on the other hand, gained about 25 pounds between Sept and Feb. Of course, I was also bartending at the time. Shift's over? Pound back some beers. And of course I'm a fan of porters, dark ales, stouts...

I got a "real job"/"desk job" in March. I lost some of the weight, but never got back to regular size. Gina's pregnant again by this point, so she's eating all crazy. Then my mother moves to town and cooks nearly everyday. My drinking has slowed down substantially. No more liquor and I tend to drink Lone Star or Miller Lite. But I'm eating home-cooked meals nearly daily. Here come the tits...

Did I mention that I smoke a pack/pack and a half a day (Camel Filters)? I need to quit smoking, too. One thing at a time, though...

Gina wants me to maybe take yoga classes with her, which I suppose is a win-win situation.

I basically live on a diet of coffee and cigarettes, then I'll eat something at night.

A few of my friends have recently gotten into kayaking. I don't think I could do it.

Okey doky. I’ve lost 7 kg –that 14 pounds to you Imperials- over the past few months with ease. And I’ll tell you the secret, but if requires a little discipline. I’ve passed this on to a few friends and it has worked for them.

Firstly, a little breakfast, cereal with soy milk etc. If you’re like me you work in a job that requires very little physical effort so during the day ONLY EAT FRUIT. Eating a lot during the day if you do nothing is pointless and why when you hit 30 you get fat.

The next bit is important, when you finish work etc. Get off the bus, subway etc so you have at least a 15min walk ahead of you and walk to fast –if you drive walk quickly away from your house for 10 mins and then walk back. As soon as you get in the door, head straight for your room and do 100 sit-ups. -The sit-ups bit is hard at first but gets very easy after a couple of weeks and gets rid of your beer belly.

Dinner, -or turning Japanese as I call it-. Convert to a Japanese-Asian diet. Fish, rice, noodles etc. NO BREAD.

Now, the best apart of this whole thing, the reason it is so easy to stick with is…

You only do this Monday morning to Friday evening, Friday night to Sunday bedtime eat pizza, drink too much and do no exercise as usual.

Trust me, this one works and is painless.
