Didn't I sell you an MCI 8 track a while ago? Why are you still monkeying with Cubase? (No votes)

Ridiculously specific Cubase question

You can also file this under anecdotes of why to hate DAW recording.

I've been running Cubase SX version 1 on my dual 1.25 Mac for a while.
I had been running 10.2.6 as my operating system. Then I upgraded to Tiger (better support for non-Cubase programs). Cubase freezes.

After a fuckload of hunting around, I found the problem - Cubase 1.051 runs into a conflict with Quicktime when Quicktime is higher than a certain version. I can't go back and put in my previous version of Quicktime, as it's not supported past OS 10.2. I also can't update to the 1.06 upgrade from Steinberg, because it doesn't install on my computer (giving me a stupid error message that says "I can't find some random .pdf").

All of which means I don't have Cubase any more. Support? There's no support from Steinberg.

Anyone possibly had this problem and figured out how to fix it? I sure would appreciate any help. I am not going to pay $500 again for Cubase, so buying SX 2 or 3 is right out. I'm also not going to drop back down to 10.2.6 - Tiger is a pretty good OS. My preferred ways of fixing this -

1. A free, legal patch or software mod that fixes the problem and allows me to continue on my merry way. Feel free to post it here.

2. Illegal software that I'm not paying big money for. At this point I have no compunction against doing this. PM me if you want to make Christmas come early.

Bullshit, eh?

Uh-oh. Cubase SX version 1 never ran well on the Mac. It was never implemented well for the Mac and so it is a bit crap. My friend had it running andit had quite a few bugs.

I would firstly ask the computer-heads at the Sound On Sound forum. I have no doubt that one of them will suggest a solution.

If you would like, I could copy and paste your question there if you can't be bothered getting an account.

You could get a cr*cked copy of SX version 2 or 3. I would only consider this if you are not making profit from using the software. Do not pay money for cr*cked software.

Rodabod -

Your avatar creeps me out, but you are a true comrade with your helpful response.

My tri-part response to you:

1. Are the Mac issues resolved with SX 2 or 3?

2. A post in that forum would be helpful. If you could do that, let me know and I'll keep an eye on the responses. If people have more questions, I'll register myself.

3. I am not making money off this. I will tell the world - I spent money on the legit version of this a while back. It doesn't do what it's supposed to and I did not get my money's worth. I would use a cracked version in a heartbeat. If I did not have about 50 songs specific to using Cubase (and about 40 hours learning the thing in and out), I would use a different program. I don't know how to get a cracked copy, but if I found one lying on the sidewalk, I'd use it.

Did you try the Cubase.net Forum? It's not the most friendly forum, but if you state your problem intelligently they will be accommodating. You have to be a legal owner of cubase to register.

I'm using SX2.2.0.39 on my PC, and I must say it's a huge step up from SX1.06. I know what you mean about lack of support from Steinberg. I can only hope that Yamaha's takeover will be beneficial.

TIGER!!! damn you tiger.

you fucked this guy Justin from Queens' cubase, and you fucked my Professional Tooling.

the PT has a dirty $75 upgrade from 6.4 which i might be forced into getting =\, as i don't want to downgrade back to Panther-town.

i just got the fucker a year ago too.

biting the bullet blows.
at least now you know you have sympathy.

A thought: if you have an external harddrive or ever considered getting an external harddrive, you can install 10.2.whatever on that drive and make it bootable, so you can work on your cubase stuffs from there and still have Tiger when it comes to other kinds of computing...

Hey Justin,

What .pdf file does Cubase say its missing? It seems odd to me that a program won't install because of a missing acrobat file.

I also use Cubase, v1.06 now - on Windows xp though. However, when I first tried to upgrade from 1.05x to 1.06, I also received an error - missing .dll I believe. Obviously not a mac error, but maybe stemming from the same problem?

After SP2 came out, I was able to upgrade. Go figure.

After reading this, I realized it might not be too helpful - on second thought, maybe I can find & upload the .pdf file you need from my installation. Just let me know if I can help with that.

I run Cubase SX 2 on the Mac. I also heartily recommend http://www.cubase.net and http://www.nuendo.com if you still can't find what you're looking for.

My version (2.0.39 or something) does reasonably well. It crashes occasionally, but that's usually when I'm pushing it beyond its limits.

Why don't you get an upgrade for Cubase? I think the upgrade is $150 to get up to 3.0. You may have to visit Guitar Center or some other "authorized reseller" to do it, I don't think you can buy it out of a catalog. Or call Steinberg US.

Or just reinstall Mac OS 10.2. If it was working before, you can get it to work again.

You're not fucked.

I'm not sure if this would fix your problem or not, but..

Make a new boot partition on your Hard Drive with OS10.2.6 on it.

when you want to run cubase, boot off that partition.
when you want to run all that other crap, boot tiger.

This is just one in a long list of OS/Hardware problems we will be seeing from Apple. Just wait untill the switch to Intel chips is made.

P.S. I never upgrade to a new OS. untill it has been floating around for
9 months to a year. I cant trust early releases. And fuck the man!!!
