I have a sincere question about "Ibanez." Maybe not the most revered brand in the lot, but during his Husker days Bob Mould bought every Ibanez Flying V he laid eyes upon -- something about the look and their tendency to stay in tune.

Now, is it "EYE bah nez," or "e BAHN yez"? Most musicians (95%+) use the former, but the only reference I can find in print favors the latter. It seems there was a Spanish novelist by the name of Vicente Blasco-Ibanez during the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. He was definitely an "e BAHN yez" man. Readers?

"Ibanez"

A lot of people assume the Hispanic pronunciation of this company, which would be "e BAHN yez". Unfortunately, said company is not of any Hispanic origin: it is of Japanese origin. They figured using a Hispanic name would make them more credible (figuring that, upon reference of the name, one might picture a small Spanish speaking man in a sweatshop in Central America slaving over the perfection of his craft...HA!... well, maybe the part about the sweatshop...). I go with "EYE bun 'ez", if for nothing more than to prove 'em wrong.
