5can i vote - somewhat sympathetic?
i mean its a little kid in a wheelchair, having fun dressed up as a clown at the library. so, i hope he's having fun, and he's probably bummed once in a while that he's in a wheelchair, but it aint a big deal cuz he's having fun...

The fact that the kid is in the wheelchair is not what is funny. It's not exploitation. Wouldn't the kid want you to laugh? He's bein' silly...havin' fun.

7Where is there any evidence or even suggestion that the kid's having fun? I can handle it easier if I tell myself he's a really bright and wonderful kid who's whooping it up dressing all silly. But where is there anything to suggest that, other than that's what makes us feel better? What makes people even think it's a boy and not a girl? If it's a boy, I feel even worse. Look at those socks!!

8Given that the person in the photo is evidently a kid, I can understand the misgivings.
But people with disabilities are allowed a sense of humor, too -- and it's sometimes self-deprecating. I had a classmate with severe deformities who would challenge his peers (jokingly) to meet him "at the bike rack, after class" for a beatdown. Hilarious. I admired the hell out of that kid.
Each of us, if we live long enough, will eventually become disabled. Let's hope we're able to laugh at ourselves then as now.
