recommend digital delay

I'd recommend the tc electronic D-Two. It's a great-sounding, flexible, easy-to-set up and program stereo digital delay. It's not a multi-effects box (although you can add modulations to the delay), so there's no weird internal routing or other stuff to take away from the simplicity of having a great stereo delay. Just about any sort of normal delay functions are available on it (dynamic delay, adjustable feedback AND number of repeats, audio filters and feedback filters, delay time display in milliseconds OR tempos, tap tempos, polarity reverse and other "widening tools," etc.) and the unusual ability to tap in rhythmic patterns for multi-tap setups. I've had one for about four years now and it gets used constantly without any problems.
