I came up with a great diet.
Eat less, exercise more.
I know thats a pretty avant garde idea, but I bet it works.

22i always say i'm on the 'don't be a fucking hog' diet
but the truth is i have known many fat people who just didn't eat that much, or at least didn't eat any more ridiculously than i do
some people just don't burn up stuff that the rest of us burn up--i don't think obesity is always or even often caused by some flagrant lack of willpower
people i have known of who tended towards fat but kept it at bay did so through pretty tight dietary restrictions and rigid exercise schedules. they seemed happier thin than fat, but it wasn't especially fun or easy for them to stay that way. it was maybe five times as hard as it is for me to 'watch my weight,' i.e. don't eat ice cream more than three or four times a week unless i'm going to yoga a lot.
there's a good story in _american fried_ (great book about food by calvin trillin) about this big fat guy who is a pizza mogul in new york. he was always 300+ lbs. ate a ton. then one day he decided to get rid of it. and he did. and every day of his life thereafter, he had to push down the fat guy that was trying to get out of his skin. he could barely eat any of his own pizza.

24i've got a better diet--the SHATKINS diet. i eat pounds upon pounds of red meat and then squat over your open mouth...

25One of the cruel ironies of poverty is that at first you get thin, and then you are likely to become obese. Don't mistake those fat people with food stamps as "well-fed." Their diets are horrible, by and large. They tend to consume a huge amount of simple carbs. They'd be better off with a thick steak and a side of vegetables, but this seems extravagant -- not only to the shopper, but to those who resent food stamps on principle.
Pasta and rice may be cheap and filling, but they don't have the staying power of a proper meal. That's why you need the bag of snacks, full of trans-fats and other villains, for your midnight snack.
Back when I made a decent living, I was trim and fit. Four years of school {read: poverty [read: pasta, rice, and bread]} have made me 40 pounds heavier. I'd be happy to eat meat and cheese and lose my baggage, but I can't afford it.
