Really?
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Every Sat. morning.
-Candy Cigarettes (went out a long time ago, I guess. Probably a good thing.)

I can lay my hands on candy smokes in less than two minutes.
How many packs would you like?
-vehicles made by Geo.

Not new ones, but there a plenty still around.
-long necklaces made from black string, usually supporting a number of different trinkets like ceramic painted mushrooms, yin yangs, etc. (look at the the Fugazi dvd when they're showing all the kids waiting in line, you'll remember).

Check.
-Baggy clothes.

Check.
-Round, purple-tinted sunglasses.

Check.
-Bandanna "do-rags".

Ubiquitous.
King of the Punk Rogers.

Reason #1 against "permanent" digital recording. Think of how the used gear market will be in 10 years. How long till "firewire" or "Mac G4" ends up on one of these threads next to Zip Disks and ADATs?

Are you trying to suggest I didn't back up my shit on my Amiga? That baby's still going strong! A new hard disk and I'll be right as rain.

But your right, we are going to see a lot of techn ology eventually add to this list.

LAD wrote:I was against the bylaw on principle. But the truth is, it's great! So great!

I did not expect this kind of comment from you, LAD!

Unless you are campaigning for safe working conditions for bar and restaurant employees, which to me is the only meaningful argument for a smoking ban, then I am actually surprised to hear you say this thing.

Yes, well as I said, I was against the bylaw. But, I quit smoking at the same time as it came into effect. And this bylaw in conjunction with hooking up with a woman-partner who doesn't smoke, was a big factor in being able to quit.

I could try and deny this was the case, but I'd be lying. It worked.

Further, I think the employee argument is enough in itself.

Now I can attend a gig and or have a pint at my local freehouse without smelling like other people's cancerous addiction afterward. And a friend of mine whom I work for as a personal caregiver (he has Muscular Dystrophy and some complicated respiratory problems as a result of the curvature of his spine and rib cage collapsing his lungs, etc) can once more attend gigs or go to the bar, period. Before he couldn't.

Sorry smoking friends. Outside you go.

Oh man seeing this just made me appreciate again how awesome it was that we were lucky enough just last year to have our Collinsville, IL VFW SHELLAC show (rescheduled from 2002 when Todd was injured)... thanks again guys for remembering southern Illinois!

But other than that, I know what you mean... during my brief stint in Austin, TX (1994 & 1995) it seemed like the VFW-type shows were plentiful and lots of fun... and always a cool all-day mix of upstart young teen punk bands and somewhat more established (grown-up?) acts like the Motards and Tim Kerr's Lord High Fixers... always a good time and lots of fun to have young and old mixing it up together, which is so sadly often missing from shows in a bar/club
