im currently looking to invest in maybe 2 or 3 good mics. nothing specific yet as i have not completed my research, I would like some info from anyone that worked with them , what general thoughts do you have on BLUE microphones.
i have learned alot on them in the past few days but i am still not convinced. could you share any thoughts on that line of mics, past experiences with them and what to expect when working with them when compared to a better yet more expensive lne of mics

im thinking of renting a few of them to try em out but they are hard to find for renting purposes.

ok! so thats that!
cheers

REALLY THAT BAD hung!

i haven't seen any bad lit. on them but thats why i am here asking you who may have worked with them and not just relying on reviews from sites trying to sell them.

they have alot of different types of mics i guess but no one talks honestly about them anywhere. anyone else have bad/good/neutral experience with these?

I have several BLUE Mics, The Mouse, and two of the balls, one being the “Kick ball”.

I really like the mouse… very nice large diaphragm condenser, and it certainly looks cool. I have had it for a long while now, and it has become my go-to for a ambient/room mic for drums, horns, whatever. I must admit that I tend to use my other nice Large Diaphragm mic (the Peluso 2247, a tube mic) more for vocals and acoustic guitar, but the mouse has never failed to provide great results for these either. If I am recording any instrument at all, I will almost always throw the mouse up in a strange random location just to see what happens, even if I don’t use or record it.

In the end though, I would say that BLUE stuff (the main line of mics that is, not the “balls” which have their own unique charms) are a very high quality line of mics, and seem to be very “hot” (as in loud, though I do admit that the “bottle” is pretty sexy.) The Mouse is a little to sharp in the highs… it captures them well, but could stand to be a little darker for my taste (hence my preference of the tube mic).

Give them a shot… I have also used a “baby bottle”, which was solid and had a nice sound, but we opted to use my Mouse at the time when compared…

Anyone used the cactus? I was always intrigued by it…

i must admit the mouse, cactus and kiwi are the ones i have been looking at. they all do look sharp but that is what worries me in the end. i was hesitant at first when i saw them cuz you must admit something smells gimicky about the way the present the gear they make.

but in the end being happy with the sounds reproduced is what counts. i just wanted to get some opinions before investing more energy into this. I dont know half of what you people know about mics so going for one of those insted of a neumann or ribbon seemed illogical since most of what i have found on Blue is new info and does not compare to the info compiled over time on the "standards."

i just want to find something diff that still sounds good. maybe i should just try and rent one and try diff things.

The Swede's BLUE Mics? Aww yeah... they should totally use that in their sloganeering.

The Blue/Violet/weird-thing is a hot subject. I sent an email to Larry Crane one day about it and he tore me a new one... really! I was just curious about all the rumors regarding Blue and this bizarre battle replete w/ dubious English going on in cyberspace, and for no apparent reason was looking at the tape op page and dropped an email to LC expecting no response... but he did respond and he was really laying into me about Blue and what have you, and how the "other mics" may be knock-offs (I had told him that I was interested in that "chubby looking mouse" they have).

Anyway he told me to realize that it is a possibility that the JZ fellow was fulla-bologna, and not to just blame Blue... still, I am thinking something must be up with the fact they have begun that strange EV deal... (anyone ever see one of those actual mics?... the catalogs seem to only ever show a computer mock up of them...).

All is weird. Nevertheless the guys mics are most likely pretty close to the real deal, if in fact they are no longer being made the same by the actual BLUE.

Ive used the Mouse and the Kiwi. I don't remember much about the Mouse, but it actually seemed to be rather mellow compared to other LD condensors. The Kiwi, which I just used this past week, was very bright but detailed, in pleasing way. I used the Kiwi on Acoustic Gtr where it performed pretty adequately, and I also used it on electric gtr where it sounded very good.

The Kiwi is really bulky and annoying though.
