Fuck Rock 'n' Roll - I've just heard "Rant in E - Minor" for the 1st time! My God, I've missed so much and for so long, and the poor guy died ten years ago!
Did anyone ever see this guys' stand up? Was he really THAT good?

2I like Rant in E Minor, except for the terrible music between the ha-ha's. That bad chorus pedal, the earnest lyrics.... Makes Jandek's albums sound like they were recorded at EA....
Anyway, I've seen a few live videos by Mr. Hicks, and usually he was that good. He shall be missed.
OK,
Mr. King

4Please do yourself a favour and buy all four of the reissues as soon as you can. Hardly a wrong note in the bunch (except for the music, but it's a far cry from Sam Kinison's attempt). I've seen one performance on tape and it was pretty incredible. The guy definitely was on to something.

one of the only reasons im proud to be from texas.
could you imagine if he was alive now, his take on current affairs would probably put me in the hospital.

Too true! I am also a huge fan, in fact when congleton and his band stayed at my place, we all watched one of my videos of his live stand up.
I'm a big, big, big fan. Rant in E Minor, again minus the music, is probably the most caustic and (to me) funny of them all. He was actually already diagnosed with cancer at the time and chose to go down swinging, which is both foolhardy and laudable.
I highly recommend the biography American Scream that Cynthia True wrote, he had an interesting life, to say the least.
check out the site, http://billhicks.com/ there's a lot of freebie media on there, some of it streaming, some of it downloadable.

i second american scream as well. a little slow at parts, and not the best written book in the world but an absolute must for any hicks fan.
