Okay, I think his voice is good. I like the fact that they put interesting politics in with their stuff, maybe some of the metal kiddiewinks will switch on to this and go and do something about it. And I find the guitarist interesting to look at; not his playing, just his face and head.

For this sort of stuff, they stand out a bit. My friend's ten year old loves them. Could do worse.

Not crap.

Not a valid question?

It is, and I'd say the answer is because 'WAR' rhymes with 'POOR'. This makes writing songs concerning these things easier.

Put THAT in your essay and smoke it, hippies.

You're right, Mssr. Rimbaud! This is a very easy rhyme.

Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

For shit on MTV and the radio, I'd have to say they're pretty good. They're not as Christ-rapingly horrible as Limp Bizkit or Nickelback or what have you. They shouldn't be lumped in the Nu-metal category- far from hammering out the same sludgy powerchords all the time, they have some relatively far-out guitar playing, and show as much punk/post-punk influence as metal.

That said, it's not like I'm defending them or even like them.

You know, you can't throw MTV, mainstream radio bands into the mix on Crap/Not crap and judge them by the same standards as you would a band that "fits" more into the musical ideology of this forum.

All I'm saying is that when they showed up on the radio, they made me want to puke less than most of the other shit being played and I actually listened to most of their songs through, rather than changing the dial to NPR.

So, with these caveats in mind, I'll give them a not crap.

I have a live performance by this band during which the guitarist's cable or something cuts out RIGHT as the really big mosh-it-up-kids part of the song is supposed to start. You can hear the lead singer laughing while trying to incite the kids anyway as the guitar techs fix the problem. This concert is very funny.

They also open up with a song about how they're all on drugs, and the guiatrist plays a bit of "Goodbye, Blue Sky" after another number.

I've got to admit liking this band, because they seem to have a great sense of humor if nothing else.
