yeah, i have the box set (the bbq one) and its all the original analogue mixes. sounds cool. obviously you aren't getting all the albums in tack like the six pack deal, but that odious fucker made me wish i didn't have ears.
i lot of people disagree with me but i pretty much like every thing up to eliminator. even the badly intonated horn section stuff on the early 80s albums has something about that i love.
ive seen zz top play live somewhere around 8 times in my life (im from texas) and even thou they are a shadow of there former self its still great to see them out there doing it ever night. and they play almost exclusively old stuff.

this is the only single cd i've heard of the real zz top mixes. since it's a ghetto 80s cd ("this compact disc album reveals the limitations of the analog equipment it was recorded on") you should be able to get it for less than 10 bucks new.

13i really like the studio side of fandango. i also really like the songs 'precious and grace' and 'sheik' from tres hombres. sheik sounds like a can song if can were from texas.
has anyone ever noticed that the shellac band photo on their southern page kind of resembles the cover to rio grande mud? i noticed this while looking for show dates once and pointed it out to bob. apparently it wasn't a spoof, just a coincidence. i like that photo though, it looks like steve is shampooing his hair. and what's with the industrial complex in the backround? it seems superimposed.

Sure, I have always thought of Shellac as ZZ Top-ish. They have that matching guitar/bass thing happening like the Top, guitarists from both bands use metal picks and alternative guitar strapping, and they both have a song about 'legs' I think. Also, take each member...Steve is certainly as skinny as Billy; Bob has a simular stature as Dusty (Bob is in much shape though...), and Todd could not grow a beard to save his life. ZZ Top ride around in an old red hotrod. Shellac ride around in an old red cargo van.... and these are just off the top of my head... I am sure there are more similarities. Anyone?

16ZZ Tops First might be the all time greatest white boy blues record of all time along with
1. Nick Cave - The Firstborn Is Dead
2. Captain Beefheart - Lick My Decals Off Baby/Trout Mask Replica
3. Dr. John - The Night Tripper
4. Any scratchy and allmost unplayable John Fahey lp from the 60's
5. That lp the Lorraine Mezzacaine Connors has in him that I don't think he has made yet but will be there eventually.

17I was at a garage sale last week.
Picked up a copy of 'Rio Grande Mud' and 'Tres Hombres' on vinyl, along with Allman Bros. 'Live at Filmore East'.
Very cool stuff. My search for 'Tejas' now begins. Had no idea what a great group ZZ Top was....

18You'll find the Groundhogs finer perveyors of whiteman blues. You'll see this as you develop.
A bit more on the bone, like.
