fortunately, i've successfully avoided hearing a lot of music i just know i'd detest upon hearing and identifying for the first time ("oh, so that's what kanye west/a.c. newman/rob thomas sounds like.")

frankly, i'm not a "shiney new music person." off the top of my head, there are only three new albums i want right now: 1) the budos band debut on daptone, 2) the vashti bunyan follow-up to just another diamond day, and 3) pierre bastien's pop album on rephlex.

i have an open mind, but i'd be VERY surprised if any of the ultra-hyped bands i'm "supposed" to like come anywhere close to these three releases.

Give the A.C. Newman record a shot. Seriously. I hate the New Pornographers and other "shiney new music". But "The Slow Wonder" is a great album.

Also, I agree with everything on your list except GnR.

- Any of those damned Brat Rock bands. Oh my god, how many bratty songs can they write about being pissed off at their mom because they have to clean their room?

- Any of those damned teen widget "artists" record companies love to bet the bank on (Ashlee Simpson, Britney Spears, the American Idol androids, etc.).

- Any "artist" whose record appears because of record companies cashing in on an unrelated minor brush with celebrity (William Hong, Kelly Osbourne, Paris Hilton, etc.)

- Madonna. Time to go away.

Off Topic: There is a scene in "The Big Lebowski", in which the dude gets kicked out of a cab for asking the cab driver to turn the radio down because he hates the fucking eagles. I love that scene.
