Hey,
This is most likely a newbie question but I would be greatful for an answer.
My college has a pair of sideways NS10m's, I like them and so I am looking for a pair on ebay. But there are two types, upright and sideways. The upright ones seem to fetch a £150 price tag whislt the sidways ones fetch £300, yet both have the same product name.
Is the difference just aesthetic or are the sideways ones better quality? i can only afford the upright ones anyway, but I would like to know what I am getting.
Also, are there any specific amps you guys have found to work well with the NS10's?
Thanks for the help
Andy
Yamaha NS10m Speakers - Upright or sideways?
2the way to get NS-10's to sound good is to throw them in the trash and buy a pair of good speakers.

3I agree on your original question, though how it relates to any monitors, not just NS-10s. Upright or sideways? Which is a better way to hear what is going on? I assume it will be said upright as that would more match the ways most listeners will have their speakers but I have seen it done both ways in the studio and I am not sure why.
I'll hangup and take my answer offline. Thanks.

4Oh please someone just tell him they're same speakers!!
There are only two variations, the NS-10m, and the NS-10 Studio. The first was a hi fi speaker and they are normally brighter, than the later created for studio use.
I don't mind NS-10's they serve a purpose, but obviously aren't the most flattering of speakers to say the least. I certainly wouldn't pay £350 for a pair, they never cost that new.

5Ok, thanks for the help
I was coming to the same conclusion from what I had found about them online. Are the 'Studio' ones any different in sound, except for the fixing of the spike around 2k?
It doesn't seem that anyone is very keen on them. Can anyone reccommed any other type of speakers that would be suitable for a home studio? I have (only) around £150 to play with, but I will be looking for second hand equipment.
Thanks again,
Andy

7I would second the Tannoys. Also, a pair of Paradigm Titans or Monitor3s might serve you well in that price range.
