12I agree 100% about the Kompakt stuff. I like the Pop Ambient releases, but the whole shuffle beat thing doesn't really do much for me. The vocal tracks are TERRIBLE and the label is hyped too much.
Indeed.

13i'm a huge eno fan, aside from him i really like that elctronic group microstoria as well as popul vuh's first record, 'affenstunde'.
also, aphex twin's 'selected ambient works vol. ii' is one of the very first records that got me into non-popular music. i really love that album despite not liking the vast majority of his other music.

You mean the New Zealand/Micheal Morley Gate? I've got The Monolake.
Some parts of it could be considered ambient, I guess. Mostly, it's
slightly structured noise rock. Maybe the other records are different.

16Pretty much everything on Kranky is pure ambient glory. My Favs are the James Plotkin and Mark Spybey album Jute Wheel and anything by Labradford.

17Erik Satie is really good. I think he kind of invented it. Growing I like alot. If yer really getting into this stuff you might find the books on Debussy and Satie very entertaining especially their relationship both musically and personally. My personal favorite is a big fat obnoxious conceited jew by the name of Morton Feldman but then (to me) his stuff cuts much deeper than what might be described as ambient and you can get it at your local library for free!

yeah. it was described to me as being pretty ambient but maybe my friend just said that because there's no drummer. or perhaps he just meant that it was ambient compared to the dead c. anyway, i was thinking of getting that live in boston record he did with lee ranaldo. i think there might be a track with zeena parkins on it too.

There are drums on Monolake. It really reminds me of
Dead C's The White House. The songs are all fairly
long, so there are lots of different parts in each one. Lots
of shifts in style.
