mess with the signal much.???

A good noise gate pedal...
2DBX used to the half rack kind they are pretty cheap I have a couple of them and never spent more than $60-100. Check it out on ebay. I find them much better than the pedals although I still use the MXR on stuff too.

They also have a one slider version called the "scilencer" as well they have those small rails modules.

The MXR Smart Gate is one of the best for its size and price. I bought one a year ago and have been very pleased. I think the guy who wears a hat and plays guitar in Shellac has one of these too, maybe.
Best,

4The Rocktron HUSH is pretty decent. I have the rackmount version and it works great.

They gots a light on 'em so you can tell when they's on, unlike the MXR.

7Oh yeah my brother has the Boss pedal. It is not bad. I like the HUSH better though, it doesn't really sound as gate-y to my ear. I think there is a pedal version of the HUSH, too.
A good noise gate pedal...
8The Hush pedal is nice. Have seen a lot of the hush stuff at pawn shops so you should be able to get a buy.
Think that S. Albini is useing the noise gate at the begining of his chain to shape his volume attack as the Trav Bean has to be the loudest output of any guitar I have encountered. So loud that one has to use pads when DIing it.

9yea id be running it at the begining of my signal path too basicly to get rid of single coil hum , i run alot of brittle gain and it really picks up the hum factor if im on either neck or bridge pickup.
