Here's some really good reasons not to quit:
- a Knob Creek on the rocks
- a Bombay Sapphire and tonic with lime
- a Ketel One Greyhound
- a Grey Goose martini with 3 olives
- a chilled Petron in a sipping glass
- Cuban mojitos
- Saison Dupont
- Delerium Tremens
- Chamay (the blue label)
- A Guiness with a little Frambois
The list could go on forever..........

72not to be a buzzkill
and i've already told my little story anyway
but in my not-insignificant experience, when people think 'man, maybe i should quit drinking,' they're usually right. especially when they think it with some regularity.

I hear that cigarettes taste good too.
That's what I hear.

74Damnit!!
Whoever dredged-up this thread clearly did so with the specific intention of reminding me that I forgot to quit drinking. I kill you badly my friend. Badly in your face.
I think I may have esp-loaded my liver over Decemberween, but I can't be sure.

75Drinking has given me the most amazing pair of breasts I have to add. May I quote an EA board regular a few weeks back:
"when I am fucking a lady I like to see 'it' going in, it's important to me. I noticed recently I can no longer see 'it' when on top because of my belly"
I would give up alcohol in a second but, alas, without it I am rubbish at having sex.
Damn it, has my name not been changed yet? see?

76Question.
There is there a US/Euro divide on this...
Seems to me there is a cultural undercurrent in the US that somehow drinking alcohol has some "moral" implication...
Tell that to almost anyone over here and you'd see wine or beer coming out of noses in laughter pretty-damn-fast.

77I think I can speak for the whole city of Milwaukee ( and I don't even live there right now) and say this is not true in Milwaukee... although in certain parts of the south (I speak in very board generalzations) this seems to be typical, there are evan dry county where you can not by booze at all...Gramsci wrote:Question.

Everything has a "moral implication" over here. We were colonized by goddamn puritans.

Naw, that assumption is pretty much bullshit. A visit to almost any city in the US would make this abundantly clear. Youve been here, right?
I really can't see where you'd draw that conclusion based on the four pages of discussion here. I havent heard any of the non-drinky USers on this thread imply anything even remotely moral about their decision. Ive heard a lot of health reasons for not drinking, and a few folks expressing concern with their ability to handle alcohol in a responsible fashion or a way they find pleasant, and even a few expressing dislike of the booze's flavor or effects, but there's been nothing "moral" in any of these decisions.
As I stated earlier, I dont drink, largely for health reasons. I often think drinking (or more precisely, the way I see most folks drink) is pretty stupid, but I ascribe no element of morality to their or my decision. Neither is right nor wrong. It would be silly to think otherwise. No one Ive met yet in my travels around the US, drink-o-phile or not, has been that silly.
I think the only reasonable conclusion you could draw is that Europeans are simply more stupider than United Statesians.

80There is definitely a divide between the US and the UK, at least in the Southern states. I spent 6 weeks in Alabama and hardly touched a drop apart from a desperate night when I went mad and had to buy a bottle of Jim Beam to save my mind.
On New Years Day however, I vowed to complete 5 straight days of sobriety. So far it has been a success. It will continue to be so as long as I do not step outside the house. Or go near the wine in the kitchen.
However, I find that more of my friends are teetotal which is fine since their reasons are not due to being former alcoholics. They have no reason to get all self righteous y'see...
On Friday, I go to Leeds. A bad place to try and remain sober but I shall give it a valiant attempt nonetheless.
