Did anyone notice that the DVD of this film claimed to be "modified from it's theatrical version" (and I don't mean pan and scan)? Apparently, the theatrical version contained footage of Treadwell on some late night talk show in which the host foretold of Treadwell's gruesome death.

I really enjoyed Herzog's presence in the film and was thankful that even when it showed him listening to the tapes, we never see his face. He did an excellent job of presenting his views without obstructing or commandeering the narrative (despite his speech on "chaos").

I really liked that country song that the helicopter pilot sang along with. Who sings that? I think it's in the trailer too.

didn't get the chance to see this when it came here. not everything Herzog's done is spectacular (e.g. White Diamond, Invincible, Cobra Verde), but Stroszek, Heart of Glass, Kasper Hauser, Aguirre, My Best Fiend, Fata Morgana, etc., are not to be be missed.

anyone seen Sign of Life? haven't checked it out yet, but it came out on DVD not too long ago.

ebert mentioned it in his review. i wonder what happened. i surmise they had clearance for theatrical release but not DVD.

i've been singing that for the past couple of days! driving my girlfriend nuts!

richard thompson (i believe it's the same richard thompson) did the 'score' for the rest of the film.

This movie is great art.

Recommended.

Was it me or did everyone in that movie seem a bit odd?

The coroner, Tim's ex-girlfriend, his parents..........

They all seemed to have strange "Kubrick-ian" quirks that almost seemed scripted. (I realize they weren't but, man.....so strange).

I think Tim knew that the longer he "coexisted" with the bears his luck would eventually run out. I think the real world was too much for him and his staying in the maze longer than normal was just a gamble he took on death. Seems like the summers he was there before he seemed aware that the odds were in his favor. The last one seemed to have the odds stacked in death's favor. And he knew it.

Yes he did and yes it is, and the DVD includes a bonus documentary on the recording of the soundtrack. Thompson often looks more than a bit bemused by Herzog's attempts top explain what he wants. Henry Kaiser and Jim O'Rourke also perform with him.

I thought Grizzly Man was brilliant, and was very impressed with how it made the point that Treadwell insisted upon attributing human emotions and personality traits to the bears, which had a lot to do with his death. Powerful stuff.

I enjoyed this film.

So many dichotomies were beautifully displayed.

Watching people anthropomorphize and intrude on wild animals always bothers me, obviously more for the sake of the animal in most cases. Seeing Treadwell continually cross this line and try to erode crucial instincts like "bears will kill you" for validation (redemption?) made me twist in my chair. Amongst other things.

mattw, the thought of you singing "Coyotes" in the face of your lady's protests makes me laugh. This song is excellent. Endure the swats.
