There's a fair amount of stuff on the Layla record that I like, but it's much more about Duane Allman than it is Clapton. I suspect that if Duane hadn't been on board, not to mention Delaney Bramlett's backing band, that record would be crap.

Clapton's wah wah on Dave Mason's "Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave" is pretty fucking great. I heard "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the radio yesterday, too, and Clapton's solo and fills sounded excellent.

The only song by Cream I like is "Badge," which I credit to Harrison as much as Clapton. People keep telling me to check out the live Cream record, and I simply do not care.

Everything else the man has done I abhor. Talk about Bluesbreakers all you want, but I just can't listen to any record on which John Mayall "sings." What's "not crap" about playing lead guitar for some crap hack? I feel pretty much the same about Keith Relf, so I can't say a lot about the Yardbirds.

When I was told that Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash, I recalled that he'd been touring with Eric Clapton at the time. I said that it was too bad that Stevie had died, paused a moment, then said, "Wait a minute...Do you think Clapton might have been on that 'copter, too?" It would've been a rare opportunity to kill two turds with one stone.

Eric Clapton is crap.

I love that guitar sound on that record - the Marshalls cranked, apparently at the top of a staircase with the mics at the bottom (perhaps an apocryphal story?). I love Clapton's fluidness on that, it's really different from the stuff even in Cream, it seems more purposeful. He makes notes sting and he makes them slip around, often in the same phrase. It's really cool.

I never liked the guitar pyrotechnics of Cream, it seemed a lot of it was just ...whatever for it's own sakes. But I like the pop side of Cream very much - "Anyone For Tennis", "I Feel Free", that kinda stuff. And Jack Bruce's rockers.

Oh...Blind Faith. I like that record. There...another good Clapton moment (though it may really be a Winwood moment with some Ginger Baker thrown in for good measure).

To me, Clapton, she lie down under "Was Almost Good Looking at Some Point, So Shame To Say, In Never-Ending And Questionable Music Career."

Also in category, Chris Cornell, who is so girl the singing and the perm, so she wear the embarassing pencil moustache and also the year-round tank top for to show no boobies, make sure she is man.

Third for this category for only three members, drummer for Blinky-360 band. She is so stupid and annoying music, but for to scrub the face like slate, maybe she is good looking for five seconds if no speak.

Must go to state of FI (Fake Italia) to express these kinds of feelings.

I think there must be a parallel universe, one in which people think Eric Clapton's music is worthwhile, enjoyable, and good.

In my universe Eric Clapton is bollocks and has never played one good note on his wretched guitar.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was opening for Clapton in the early 70's. Backstage, Gary Rossington told Clapton how much he and his bandmates had idolized Cream growing up. "'Crossroads' changed my life, man" he told him. Clapton responded that Skynyrd also did a very good version of the song. "Maybe so," Rossington said, "but you wrote it."
