I agree. It's alot more raw.

Most of the final tracks sound better (production/arrangement), but like I said, sometimes it's cool to hear another approach to a song you already know.

Why? I fail to see why this is any different to the Instrument Soundtrack? Anyhow, after Jem Cohen's film I think fans deserve something interesting. The film was good, but the way it cut off live songs halfway through for pointless shots of the band sitting around was crap.

It's interesting, after a bit of thought maybe it would only have worked if Steve recorded it and someone else mixed it. Steve's vocal approach is very raw and direct, it sounds as if Guy's voice needed a bit of "production".

Fugazi released the Instrument soundtrack. That's at least one (fairly important) way in which it's different.

So you don't have or listen to any bootlegs of your favourite bands?

Actually, no.

Or I should say, "Not any more." In the distant past I have had bootlegs. I have also been consistently disappointed by them and have come to realize that it's probably because I trust the taste and quality control of artists I respect. Unreleased stuff is usually unreleased for a reason.

But I think youre taking my statement wrong. I was just pointing out that your analogy was deeply flawed. I wasnt taking a side in this "argument." I dont care. Listen to what you want. But dont try to equate unreleased "demos" with released "demos" when what is being argued about isnt the "demo" part but the "unreleased" part.

As far as in the studio stuff goes, I only have the Rodan demo and that's only because it was recorded here in Baltimore. I also know people who had said that it sounded better so I gave it a shot. It's still boring.

I once found a Shellac recording that was supposeedly demos from At Action Park and the first thing I did was let Steve know that this was out there. Since he never replied I assumed that they were either fake or not meant to be heard so I deleted the tracks without ever listening to them.

Well at least you do want you say you do. This is to be commended.

I like listening to bootlegs, demos etc. I fail to see anything "wrong" about that. I kind of like the adventure of hunting down rare and unheard tracks by my favourite bands. Example Peel Sessions, more often than not these aren’t released by the band but shared by friends, fans etc.

Anyhoo, I'm not trying to pick a fight.
