Never seen them live, but their records have been great companions through some bad breakups.

Live, they were great...until the encore when they decided to play a 20 minute cover of "Cortez the Killer."

Built To Spill recently put on one of the three best live shows that I have ever seen. Man, that was a great show.

People whom I trust in Idaho are very fired up about this new Built To Spill record. They say that it is a very good record.

I would now like to share three bad band names with you:

Haxx
The Diabetes
Playne Stewart

Saw BTS 3 times. One at Lozenge Ax...was just OK. Two at Metro. The first was awful...turgid and jammy. But the one this past Spring was incredible...it had an energy that the other 2 lacked, and the three intertwining guitars were something.

I believe you're right, in fact, my friends and I speculated that when Doug tried out that guitarist he said "What can you bring to the table"

Then dude played Mr. Crowley note-for-note.

Then Doug said "Your hired."

They're a little noodly, but still Not Crap.

i have a copy of a BTS "mr crowley." at the end of the song, martsch says, "the all-ages crowd earlier didn't even want to hear that one." and then he tunes his guitar or sets his delay settings for another two minutes.

But, yes, Built to Spill is NOT CRAP. Keep It Like a Secret is so great and Perfect From Now On makes me so sad. The new album sounds like it'll be real good as well. You can download it now or buy it next week.

When I saw these guys in summer '01 i thought they were better and more important than I had ever thought. And this was when I was already entrenched in the earlier records. A few months later I saw them again and it was boring. Martsch did a solo set halfway through and he spent the whole night sweating buckets thanks to the flu. Maybe I didn't like the show since I was then entrenched in My War and 1987 Rollins Band.
