Here in the UK, Mountains Nantucket Sleighride was the theme tune to WEEKEND WORLD presented by he of high forhead Brian Walden (or Bwian Wraldan if you will), a political current affairs program that was on when I was a kid.

I heard this track on the radio the other day and recognised it instantly, why the fuck don't they make TV themes like this anymore?

Fuck.

I still get chills about eight seconds into Sittin' On A Rainbow when the bass crawls out of the lava and goes `Bhhwwrraaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh'

How about the beginning of Silver Paper when the guitar starts with a stab right in the eye and one fat hippie howling `Open Your Heart, and let the Sun Shine In!' Bizarre and Not Crap

Nantucket Sleighride-stoners singing about whalers!

Never In My Life, For Yasgur's Farm, Boys In the Band, Don't Look Around, You Can't Get Away!, Tired Angels, even My Lady...

Fuck.

I'm on Amazon right now.

I don't know if this is a topic for a separate thread or whatever, but when did TV theme tunes become shit?

I remember half the tv shows from when I was a kid by their theme tunes, World in Action being a good example, it used to scare the shit out of me!!!!

It could even be argued that Cheggers Plays Pop is a contender for it's riffage?

Do it. You're right, there are a load of really shit ones, but then there are some that are actually quite good (I have a soft pink spot for Jan Hammer).

If you post it, they will come (by which I mean a thread compiling a list of good theme tunes).

Hijack ovah.

Though not officially a record by the band Mountain, I'm especially fond of Leslie West's Mountain LP, "Long Red" and "Baby, I'm Down" in particular. The former was memorably covered by the Mott the Hoople, the latter by Rising Shotgun.
