Sadly, I would have to agree. It's doubly saddening because a quiet slope with courteous skiers and boarders is just as paramount to snow fun as anything else.

Christ, don't get me started! My very first lesson was in Tahoe, and boy was I spoiled. Falling was effortless and painless in the 18 inches of fresh powder that they had received that morning. I haven't been boarding out west since then, and I've spent the last 6 winters destroying my edges on icy, machine-made crap. It really can make for a dismal bruising day on the slopes.

It's harder to get off the lift, but at the same I've witnessed some very funny crashes and mishaps because of this. True that there are many, many punk-ass kids and idiots on snowboards, but that just goes back to the fact that it's really easy to learn and anyone can do it in a couple days.

Wow, this is entirely the opposite of my experience with boarding. My first season was spent with sore wrists, knees and asscheeks. I can only guess that you learned out in the fluffy snowy west where the sport is less beneficial to your HMO.

Oh - and this summer we bought a season pass that gets us into 6 resorts in New England with only a few blackout dates for only $340. That's great value, considering it now goes for over a grand.

I just meant as far as the twisting and turning of your knees when you fall on skis.

On a board your feet are strapped down and the board is not coming off if you fall...kinda makes it impossible to twist a knee. Not true for skis.

I think that's a big reason why the skis are supposed to pop off. From what I've seen, it doesn't always work out that way.

But hey, if you're good enough to not ever fall, I guess you don't have to worry about it. Most people do though once or twice...

When I learned my knees did indeed take a beating from impact on the hard stuff. Not as bad as the ass though...I had bruises.

i will assume by your response that you didn't read the first message, the one that launched this poll. the word "downhill" implies, at the very least, that one could only count waterskiing done in a river. because there's no such thing as a downhill lake.

I will assume in your assuming that I didnt read the first message that it matters if I were to read it and respond accordingly. I simply gave my opinion, and since it said nothing of "downhill" in the poll options, I didnt feel it necessary to disregard the wonderful sport that is water-skiing
