5In all fairness, I have to agree with mahuang to this extent: that a small tube amp running full out can sound huge. Or even a small solid state amp (li'l smokey comes to mind) can sound really good through a good cab. My own secret weapon is a Kalamazoo model II, to which I added a rheostat as an attenuator, for power-stage saturation at whisper levels, though this lacks the particular sound of speaker cone distortion.
