Fat Tire in Chicago!

1
Last night I heard a rumor that Fat Tire will be available at at least Bar Louie starting sometime in February.

After I shit my pants, I posited a question to New Belgium Brewing Co. via an email address on their website.

They replied this morning:

Greetings from New Belgium Brewing Company.

Thanks for your email; the answer is YES! All of your wildest dreams are about to come true—well, only if your wildest dreams involve 22oz bottles of Fat Tire! We plan to start selling Fat Tire in the Chicago area sometime in mid-February (most likely on or shortly after the 10th). Because we are still working out the distribution details with our first Chicago wholesaler, Chicago Beverage Systems, I honestly don’t have any more info on where exactly it will be released first. But rest assured that you will be able to find 22oz “bomber” bottles of Fat Tire very soon! And if you have a strong need for more info than that, feel free to shoot us another email in a few weeks—we’ll be happy to fill you in on any more details. And if you have a favorite watering hole you think should get hooked up with Fat Tire, tell them to give us a call!

Have Fun

Why everyone comes in their pants over this beer is beyond me.

Probably the best Colorado beer, but that's a backhanded compliment, since Colorado beer is CRAP.

There are about 10 beers (more?) produced within 250 miles of Chicago that are kicking Fat Tire's proverbial ass.

Somebody from Wisconsin flip out already.

When I moved to Idaho, I had the same type of immediate "OH MY GOD!" response to Fat Tire, which is served on every tap around here. How great! To have the Fat Tire! On tap!

But you know what? Fat Tire is just okay. You don't get tired of it. You just come to understand that it's a pretty pedestrian beer, at least these days. Maybe it's better than okay. But it's just around okay.

It's like the Radiohead of beers. Exotic to the regular guy. Boring and obvious, if occasionally better than okay, to the student.

Hey. No offense. I've been there.

I'll add that Fat Tire seems quite sugary, and it used to give me terrible hangovers -- even after only two glasses -- before I quit drinking it. I know other people who have had this experience as well.

I invite everyone to visit Boise, Italia, where the Fat Tire, she is available everywhere in bottles, on the taps and from fahgina trucks at "streets fairs".

when i stopped in idaho i ended up picking up two cases of moose drool and a case of scape goat. i was too excited to wait until i hit montana.

i also stopped at a bar and drank some of the area beers on tap and had an order of "idaho potato skins" (appetizer) that i couldn't finish because the potatos were fucking huge.

but it was all really good and got me drunk.
