For extra cheap beer, Schiltz is the best. Has a decent flavor to it, and I prefer it to Budweiser.

For malt liquor, the best taste-wise is St. Ide's. That's because they don't make Powermaster any more. Ides is usually best out of a 32oz bottle, and we used to get two of them and call it the 'Bronx Stylee'. That's because we lived in the Bronx.

The new "high-gravity" (Steel Reserve, and I'm pretty sure that 8-ball makes one too) malt liquors are the best if you just want to get wrecked.

The worst beer on the planet is Natty Light.

I don't know... that Josef Hoffbauer shit that Kroger sells is pretty damn terrible. I think I got some sort of gut-rot from it.

As for ghetto malt liquors, I like Country Club (on the rare chance I'm in a state that sells it.)

k... being from Houston.... these are my picks!

Steel Reserve - extremely high alcohol content at a very affordable price. maybe the most bang for your buck. tastes like metallic asshole though.

Bud Ice - foamy as hell, and the taste is nothing special. but at about $4 a six pack, it is the most alcoholic of the Budweiser family. a decent bargain.

***Note - Shiner Bock isn't considered cheap here... even though it is brewed locally, it is sold in a shady fashion at import prices. how shitty is that. great beer though. i would recommend Zeigen Bock over Shiner though, as it is just as tasty but extremely more cost effective.

hmmm... let's see

Icehouse fits this cheap beer/decently strong category. although it tastes of piss and vinegar. horrible horrible flavor in my opinion. can't stand it.

Finally... we have Red Dog!
I know, I know... shit beer right. Wrong. At about $5 for a 12-pack it is worth a mention. That's 12 beers for around $5, and it isn't the worst brew you have ever suckled on. I've had many a Red Dog night, personally.

That's all for now.

p.s. where do you live in Houston tthomas? or is it Austin?
I could have been a contender...

Weird: I typed Yuengling into my first post, but deleted it 'cause I'd never heard of it a month ago and figured no one else had, either. I believe it's made in Pennsylvania, and it is very good indeed. Probably not much help to a Texan, though.

Red Dog is a worthy slummer's brew. So is Genesee; its taste and aroma remind me of autumn in the Northeast, which is not a bad thing at all.

yeah, yeungling is pretty big around DC; it's in seemingly every bar. i like it just fine. but good luck getting a huber out here.

can i play the "i'm so fucking rich" card and say my favorite cheap berr is Sol? it's not cheap. i'm totally not that rich, but nobody has any proof of that or nothin, so...

huber, bud, schlitz, bush, coors... any of that is alright by me.
